Now that we have learned how to LOVE the Word™, we’re about to start practicing the method in our new series. The new study begins September 18, but until then, here’s a LOVE the Word™ exercise and part one of my talk (audio below) on Healing the Father Wound. Here’s the private Facebook discussion page for this series that I mention in the audio, if you want to join in the conversation with a little more privacy as I do.
A Special Message
Some of us are experiencing anxiety at the anticipation of the Healing the Father Wound study. I confess I, too, am feeling its weight as it approaches, so I am going to share this communication in case it helps as we take deep breaths and prepare for the study.
.
A listener writes: “Why is it that I forgive or say I forgive my father and I still feel uncomfortable talking to him, I feel like I still have to be perfect for him to show love, why do I need his approval?
.
The new study is not even started and I’m already crying my eyes out, is bringing up all kinds of feelings, hurts, memories that are so painful to look at, resentments that I thought I already deal with coming to the surface again.”
.
And my partial response: “I don’t want you stewing in these awful feelings for weeks before we even begin the study, and longer while we work through it. So…
Welcome to Tayana, MaryJane, and Sandi, Bible Study Evangelista’s newest friends of the show!
Study Audio
LOVE the Word™ is a Bible study method based on Mary’s own practice: lectio without the Latin. This week’s LOVE the Word™ exercise is according to a Augustinian* personality approach.
Listen (Receive the Word)
“I will restore you to health; of your wounds I will heal you, says the Lord” (Jer 30:17).
Observe (Connect the passage to recent events.)
This verse was in the morning readings this week; it is God’s word to His church, to you, right now. In the Holy Spirit’s presence and with His help, what is the wound you long to be healed from? What do you think He might ask of you in the process of healing?
Verbalize (Pray about your thoughts and emotions.)
In your journal or on your journal page (get a free page to the right), write down what you believe the Holy Spirit is saying to you through this verse about your wound: Lord, I sense you are saying that I should…
But I worry about…
My fears about this process with you are…
I need your help here…
Entrust (May it be done to me according to your word!)
Lord, I hurt. Heal my wounded heart.
.
*LOVE the Word™ exercises vary weekly according to the four personalities, or “prayer forms,” explored in Prayer and Temperament, by Chester Michael and Marie Norrisey: Ignatian, Augustinian, Franciscan, and Thomistic. These prayer forms correspond to the Myers-Briggs personality types.

I’m so happy you’ll be addressing the mother wound with this series too. I need it!
<3
The Holy Spirit is working POWERFULLY through you, Sonja. I was in my morning LOVE the Word/journaling (matthew 23:22- a swearing promise) and the Lord said this same thing to me. As I prepare for this father wound series I thought I don’t have a father or mother wound. I praise God for my parents. I did bring to God that the immediate people around me didn’t really love me. It wasn’t TRUE love. It was a selfish love that was not ordered to me. It was all about them. And yes this was Very hard to acknowledge- I actually started to cry. I’m sure God is working at the area of my wound.- God Bless you
Amen.
Love you and praying for us all my sisters in Christ.
And brothers! There are a bunch of guys signed up too. <3
